Young living was introduced to me by a co-worker and has made a profound change to my life as well as the life of my family and friends.

Having energy to play with my kids and a new found patience to deal with lifes ups and downs are just a few of the benefits that I have gained since starting to use essential oils.

What are Essential Oils?

In short, essential oils are the concentrated aromatic liquids extracted from plants. Each individual oil contains the essence of the plant from which it was extracted and each has multiple uses and benefits.

There are multiple ways to use essential oils.

You can apply them topically, which means they can be applied directly to your skin or applied to your skin with the use of a carrier oil; Common areas to apply essential oils are your temples, behind your ears, on your forearms, wrists, and to your feet.

You can use the oils aromatically by smelling the oil directly by placing the oils on your hands and inhaling or smelling directly from the bottle. You can also diffuse the oils using a diffuser or placing the oils on a cotton ball and putting it near your vent in your home or car also works to diffuse the oils.

Safety with Essential Oils

There are a few key points to remember when using essential oils.

  1. Never apply oils to your eyes, ears or mucus membranes. If this occurs flush with an oil like olive oil. Do NOT use water. This will increase the irritation.

  2. Oils can be very 'hot'. This means that they can be very irritating to the skin. The use of a good quality carrier oil such as coconut or olive oils can be used if sensitivity occurs so always keep a bottle of carrier oil near by. Test your sensitivity to an oil by using oil on a small area of skin first. And Remember, one drop of oil is enough.

  3. Essential oils need to be stored in glass containers. Plastic containers will break down.

There are so many fun and beneficial ways to use essential oils. This is going to be a fun journey!
